Second Captain’s Blog

Today, I would like to share the recent experience of a Burial at Sea. I’ll title this blog: A fond farewell Under a somber yet serene sky over San Diego Harbor, our vessel, Romancing The Wind set sail once again to perform a full body burial at sea—a time-honored tradition that holds deep personal significance to many. As we leave San Diego Bay we turn westward into the Pacific Ocean, navigating past Point Loma venturing into deeper waters, as the day proved to be ideal for this dignified Burial at Sea ceremony. The mood on board was reflective and reverent, inviting a deep sense of peace and contemplation among everyone present.

Once on location, family and friends gathered on deck, their conversations interwoven with the natural sounds of the sea, creating a soothing atmosphere for this final farewell. The high sun cast a warm glow as the ceremony commenced with heartfelt tributes and cherished memories were shared amongst the attendees. The vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean offered a profound sense of closure as they gently committed their loved one to the ocean’s eternal embrace. We circled the vessel the times around the site ringing the ships bell on each pass as a tribute to the departed. The sea has an infinite capacity to connect all to its timeless cycle, and as we departed for the return trip home, family and friends, after a fond farewell,  were comforted with the knowledge that their loved one would be forever at rest beneath the vast, blue serenity of the Pacific Ocean!
